I love Derwent Inktense pencils and have for a very long time. They never disappoint with their beautiful bright colours and the ability to continue to add color, that dries permanent, over the top, making little ‘tweaks as much as you like.

I took the card I made the other day and added additional depth of colour over the top, and wow I love the vibrancy!

I made another quick video just to show how easy it was to add color using these amazing pencils. The video is nothing flash, has no voice over or written words and is at 4x speed, but hopefully it may be useful for some. This flower can be found on my Etsy and Payhip Stores.

Print and Watercolour

Looking for a quick easy project after playing with my colouring books, I moved to one of my Printable Cards and created this very quick project using watercolours.

I tend to indulge a little each year for my birthday, and this year was no exception. I purchased just a few things from Jane Davenports site, including these watercolours.

This card took no time at all to whip up – after I worked out how to print with pigment ink! There I was all set up to video and paint and my first attempt did not go well, with the water bleeding the lines. Oooops.

Learning Curve

Well I knew colouring books would be different, and there is certainly a learning curve that I fully expected. How the talented create such beautiful pages is amazing, and when I went back to give it another go I found it challenging once again.

I chose this image from Johanna Bamford’s ‘Rooms of Wonder’ and set to work. This time I wanted to fill the background as well, but how to do that on paper that is not really designed for it? Not easy, at least for me.

I started at the top and worked my way down, then down, and down some more. As I went I worked on the background adding gesso and Inktense pencils as I went. The main images are worked with Polychromos and my favourite white pencil -Luminance from Caron D’Ache.

Oh well, onward and upward. Time to find something a little quicker and within my skill set 😂.

Memory’s

A very dear friend lost her Mum a few weeks ago. You want to give something, say something, do something at times like these, but they all seem not enough.

We shared visits and many phone calls and in between those I made this card. Not your normal sympathy card. The four flowers represent her Mum and the three daughters she had.

I used my Sennelier watercolours, Black Velvet Silver 4 brush and Artistico Fabriano paper, along with a Fine Lin 0.1 pen.

Watercolour once again, simply because I love it so much!


These bright fresh colours just fell on to the paper, but again I found it difficult to simply let it happen without some sort of guide, but I guess only practice will help!

Adding Colour

Happy Australia Day! How lucky we are to live in this beautiful country.

What a wonderful thing watercolour paints are. The way they blend and mix to create never even thought of combinations…they have always been a favourite.

Really when you’re playing with watercolours, no matter how they come – pencils, crayons or pans, they make it very easy to create and oh so much fun.

Before I start with any watercolour I tape my watercolour paper onto my work surface which at the moment is a bamboo chopping board – making it easy to move around.


This image was created backwards to what I usually do. Normally I lay down an outline very lightly in pencil so I can see where it’s going, but with this the colour came first. The background then the flowers followed by a finaliser for definition. It was fun and scary all at once.


I had a lot of fun creating this little watercolour, time for the next!

I have nearly completed a video to go with this very simple water colour card. I love watercolours because they are so very forgiving! I am constantly eyeing off new ones when I don’t really need them, and planning how I can squeeze them into my budget.

The card came together very quickly! After printing my images on Derwent Watercolour paper I trimmed to desired size – border marked on card – then started colouring.

Watercolour Background

Hi and thanks for stopping by today!  Remember this card I made a little while ago, well it made it as a favourite on CAS(E) this Sketch!  I was blown away, and so very excited to be asked by Chrissy to be a guest this week for a brand new sketch!!  So here is the sketch and my take on it.

I decided to use a new digi image I’ve created and twisted and turned it to fill the front of my card, then coloured it using Derwent Watercolour pencils.  This time I didn’t use my Inktense, which was really hard to do, but then I felt these lovely pencils had long been neglected and so therefore were chosen…(lucky them).

I wanted to keep it fairly subtle , and I have to say (after taking numerous photos) this card is far prettier in the flesh….I simply couldn’t capture it with my limited photography skills.  I added Lagoon Sprinkles as an afterthought, and they really make a difference – in the flesh!

Copic or Inktense

I loved the simple sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch this week and have had it sitting on my desktop for daaayyys, so today I got around to doing something about it!  I wanted to use both Copics and Inktense and have tried to match the colours as close as I could just so I could see the differences.

This one uses Inktense pencils.  The light background at the top took mixing 3 colours to get something close to the colours I used in the Copic card, but I came pretty close with that I think.  To me it looks like a watercolour card and not smooth like the Copic, but then I liked the Copic as well 🙂

The Copic card actually took a lot less time because I didn’t have to wait for anything to dry.

Not good lighting in my office today so it was hard to get a good shot, even with three lamps going!  The image is from the Flowers For You set but I’ve used the digital version (coming soon) and scaled them larger to suit the card I had in my mind.  The sentiment I created and printed at the same time as I printed the image out.

Lil Monster’s InKtensity

Ok, so when I stamped a sheet of watercolour paper the other day I stamped more than one of Lil Monster, so thought I’d better colour him and move him to the finished box of cards.  After using my new Peerless watercolours for the last few projects I went back to my favourites for colouring in – Inktense pencils by Derwent (they’re just so easy to use).

Very plain, possibly a little boring, but I don’t know another way that I’m comfortable with, so went with it!  Lil Monster is coloured using – Golden Yellow, Mustard, Amber, Dk Aquamarine, Sea Blue, and the floor, background and balloon with Neutral Grey.  The background and balloon was a combination of yellow and grey to create a very muted colour.  I used the Neutral on the balloon and allowed it to dry before brushing the watered down yellow over.  This time I left the image as is without adding any additional shading 🙂
